Very interesting take. The author essentially wants India, the largest country in the world with 1.4B people, to play geopolitics on the basis of the so called “Liberal International Order” and not its own self interest.
The examples cited are not officially condemning Russia or declaring a trade war with China. If you know a thing or two about India, you would realise why that’s not possible. Either way, the author is perplexed why India doesn’t want to be a US “ally”.
India’s the world’s largest country with its own ambitions, which require it to be independent, but also not autarkic. In that pursuit, India doesn’t want to do someone else’s bidding by being an “ally” but rather ensure symbiosis on geopolitics, trade, etc. by being a “partner”.
