India needs more vocational training in its rural areas

March, 2023

If we look at India’s economic growth story until now, the main driver has been the boom in its services sector, including software services. The resulting increase in jobs in services meant that the education sector also followed to upskill the masses for those particular jobs.

Hence, India started transitioning from an agrarian economy to a services one. However, in the past, economies had to cross one more bridge in the journey from agrarian to services, namely manufacturing. India now is taking a detour and just crossing the manufacturing bridge.

There is a massive opportunity in vocational education for organisations to upskill individuals in the agrarian economies and prepare them for manufacturing jobs. Organisations will have to go hyper local, identifying and training the talent in villages / towns. Money to be made.
